Personal - Convoys of the Sun #WIP

It should represent life and persistence. A tree needs water to survive. This one is located in the desert, determinded to rip apart the ground to find any single drop of water.
This is what my goal is, rip apart anything which prevents me from what I love doing the most.

Been home this weekend, did nothing worth noting. Did this just now since I really needed to get my thoughts aside. Still a work in-progress.

Oh and yes, it's going to be finished.

Going Live!

Yes, you've heard it right. I'm going to do live sessions on my own personal UStream page.

My UStream page is: http://www.ustream.tv/channel/thimerit
I'll be doing and event tomorrow! - Sunday March 27 - Value Practice! 12 PM till 1 PM!

See you there!

School - Basalt Island / Sketch

Another assignment we have is: Create your own (dream) island! This can be anything as long as you're able to make in interactive later!

Well I decided to put up some random words on google to see what came up. The word was: Basalt.
Hey thats sounds fun! Let's call it: "Basalt Island"!
However, what does that mean? I looked it up, seems it's a common rock that comes off lava. Uh-oh.
So my team will be a volcanic floating island! Now isn't that nice... I'm planning to do a lot of rough sketches, here's the first! Enjoy!

Here you go! Sketch #2! (Going to make 3 or 4 in total and finish the best)

School - Final Piracy Infographic

Cleaned it up and made a few changes. This will be my final! Less is more, right?

School - Illustration Facebook & Twitter is addictive

You know these social networks, don't you? Maybe you find them addictive as well! Either way, my assignment was to make an illustration out of this.

"Are you going with the flow and join the social media?
Be careful, it won't be easy to let go once you get more and more involved to this..."

School - Childrens book, Character Design

Here we go! Another character for a childrens book. Well, I had an eskimo in mind.

The story? I'll post that later.

School - Piracy Infographic

This is my near-final infographic about piracy near the Somalian coast and Gulf of Aden.
It's supposed to represent how much financial damage the government has through piracy. Also it should represent opportunities how to counter the modern piracy.
Also I've put the areas which are threatened on the chart as well.

All that's left is: A globe which represents the part of the word and.. something else?

Sven Sauer - Making of Matte-Painting

What is this about, you ask?
If you're interested in Matte-Painting then this is a have-to-watch!

Not only does it give you a great view upon what matte-painting actually is, but also what power it has!

Illustration Assignment #01

Our weekly assignment, make an illustration with the given text. This is all about the environment. How unfriendly travelling is to our environment, have you ever thought that researching this is pretty much polluting our world? That is what this illustration is about.

And for those who are interested, here is the Aquarellic version (I blame my scanner for the quality):

Nick Vujicic

Who is this one guy, you might wonder.

It's someone who can really give a change of though. Makes you think and show or even bring up your true self-potential. There is so much more to life then you might know yourself.

Ask yourself, what is your goal, ask yourself what you live for, what is true happiness for you?

Here is a video with a trailer from one of Nick Vujicic's DVDs.

It's definately worth watching. Believe me, it made me see and believe my own goals, he even convinced me of giving it all I have. Giving up is far from the answer.

School - Ruins of what was - Wrecked Odyssey

Another Work-In-Progress! Well I added the ripped sails beside the ship, defined more of the wooden hull and now I'm perfecting it. After that the beach follows and the background needs refining!

That's all folks!

School - Ruins of what was - Wrecked Odyssey

A work in progress of the ship so far. Cough cough!

School - The Ruins Composition

Yes, it's going to be an odyssey! And for now.. the composition sketches!

School - "De ruine van wat was"

Well a little translating here: "The ruin of what has been". This is my third assignment, and I've started sketching to let loose of some ideas. So here goes!

I'll clarify what everything should represent.
Upper-left: An ancient dinosaur has been revealed by a river bed that has dried up. However due to erosion half of his skeleton has "melted" into the rock.
Upper-Right: Two rotten apples. I had an idea to make a story-board like effect to show the process of these "ruins".
Lower-left: An old watermill which has been abandoned and forgotten. Located at the edge of a forest/cliff/river.
Lower-right: Old ruin located in Combodja. Those ancient vietnamese ruins of legends fascinate me.

Well I nearly made my decision when I continued sketching and I stumbled upon these designs:

The ship of Odysseus, which has crashed upon the waves in a storm of Poseidon.
While the original concept was to make a ruin for a certain theme park, this would be a great combo. A ruin which really caught my eye and at the same time it's capable to be put in a theme park (as an eye catcher or maybe as a sort of ghost ship attraction?) Here we go!

School - Matte Painting 02 - Sinkhole

My second but my first finished Matte Painting! Here I portrayed Rotterdam being tortured by a sinkhole. It's even big enough to create a second sinkhole to the left. Cars are trying to hurry out of Rotterdam by the only road that has not yet collapsed.

And here are the resource photo's I've used to construct the whole image. Oh the smoke? I've used brushes.

School - Matte Painting 01 - Meteor Shower

Posting an update on a Matte Painting. Thing is that I need to do a hell lot more updates if I'd plan to show my recent work.

This obviously represents a meteor shower. And it's missing quite a few elements. Destruction, rubble that flies about and a bigger impact. It's all going to be in the picture.

School - Photo research Matte Paintings

I'm shortly a proud owner of a SLR camera and I decided to use this to help me out getting good shots of Rotterdam. And here I present my research on good photo's for matte painting!
